Like Pizza, The Best HR Solutions Are Made To Order….

It’s true.

…And whilst we might sound like we’re joking,

….Here are seven serious (and nutritionally balanced) reasons why:

1….WE NEED TO DELIVER ON YOUR EXPECTATIONS

It’s no good delivering you a thin and crispy vegan capricciosa if what you REALLY want is a triple deluxe meat lovers with a stuffed crust.

The same goes for people and business solutions.

Our role is to understand your organisation’s needs, and what will work best to satisfy them.

You need something cut into 10 thin pieces? Or made in a square instead of a circle? Or served with a knife and fork? No problem. It’s your call. It’s not up to us to judge (or preach).

Our job is to make sure that our products and solutions are delivered in the way that works best for you, and is easiest and most impactful for your business- and your bottom line.

2…. NO REHEATED, GENERIC RUBBISH

You can taste the difference between a custom product that’s specific to your workplace needs, versus some rubbery frozen thing that’s just been reheated over and over (even if you’ve dressed it up with fancy looking garnishes. No one eats those anyway – they just push them off to the side).

It’s just not satisfying.

And it can make you risk averse, and put you off ordering more/again.

3….. NOT EVERYONE LIKES PINEAPPLE

Or anchovies (and definitely not together).

Similarly, every business is a mix of ideas, experiences, preferences, styles, tastes and opinions.

We need to work with you to manage those differences in a constructive and practical way that maximises cohesion and buy in – and avoids people getting bogged down in heated debate over minutiae that distracts from the end goal.

Ideally, you want everyone to come to the table willingly to partake of what’s served (and if they have to flick off some olives, we’ll just quietly tidy them up and not make a big deal out of it – we understand that its all about focussing on the bigger picture, and picking battles accordingly).

4…… AN ARMY MARCHES ON ITS STOMACH

As HR service providers, we need to ensure that what you’re buying from us will deliver in terms of keeping your team and business strong, energised and forward-moving (not to mention ready for battle).

We respect that you are the expert on what your team and business need, and that you- and they- have your own tastes and preferences.

Where we add value is in helping you to put together the optimal combination of ingredients, whilst contributing our knowledge and experience to get the very best end result.

Portion sizes matter, too. We need to get the order size right, and within budget.

If you’re thinking of ordering six pizzas to feed thirty people for a Friday lunch, we need to help you make the appropriate adjustments. No one likes a hangry workplace.

Conversely, we also want to minimise waste, and don’t want to deliver more than you need, either.

5…… IT HAS TO BE GOOD FOR YOUR BUSINESS, BUT ALSO APPEALING TO THE TEAM

It’s safe to say no-one’s going to line up for a serve of Brussels Sprouts pizza.

HR has a pretty bad reputation for being indigestible and unappealing (or being forced down peoples’ throats).

Things that leave a bad taste in your mouth are unlikely to lead to good outcomes.

Really good HR solutions should be delivered in such a way that they’re actually appealing and engage people to genuinely want to try them (and to venture beyond the tried and true of their comfort zone)**.

And if that first taste encourages your team and business to ask for more- or gives them the courage try something new or different- then even better!

**And a quick note on jargon – a potato is a potato. It doesn’t matter if we try and make our offering look fancier by referring to “organic, hand harvested pommes de terre” or cutting them into fancy shapes. The taste is going to give it away- and its not a sensible way of justifying (or hijacking) the price. You’ll just feel ripped off and annoyed.

It’s better just to be straightforward, open and up front.

6….. THE LONGER YOU WAIT, THE COLDER AND LESS APPETISING IT IS (AND THE MORE PEOPLE COMPLAIN)

Sometimes you need express delivery.

Other times, you might prefer to order in advance.

We need to respond to issues and deliver what you need according to your timetable (or level of emergency), on your terms.

If you deliver too early, people might not be ready.

On the flip side, if things aren’t delivered in time, and/or the longer people have to wait, the hungrier and grumpier- and more sceptical they get. (And sometimes they just give up and head off to the takeaway down the road – in real terms, that means disengagement, absenteeism – or packing up your stuff and moving to a different job/employer because you’ve had enough).

7….. IT HAS TO BE GOOD VALUE

You can tell if we cut corners, or if quality has been sacrificed for quantity.

And if you don’t feel that you’ve been charged a fair price, or getting what you want and need involves too much work, you’ll go elsewhere.

In the ideal world, you’ll like the product, the service and the price-point so much that you’ll become a repeat customer and build a long term relationship based on mutual synergy and understanding – and never feel taken for granted.
